OBM 2.3 Installation on Debian Howto
Description
This document provides step by step installation instructions for OBM 2.3.x on Debian. Most of the instructions will also work on debian derived linux distributions, like Ubuntu. Although this document is still under construction and still evolves it we hope it will help you getting OBM up and running. Any feedback (and help) to make this documentation better is appreciated.
There are some new features in OBM 2.3.x :
- obm_o-push service : PDA synchronization (should work with all PDA's using Microsoft's ActiveSync software)
- obm_caldav service : Thunderbird synchronization (should work with other guest using Caldav capabilities)
- obm_solr : an indexation service providing new possibilities of research with OBM-ui and improve the speed of them
- obm_munin : a supervision service providing a real-time graphical view of the activity on all the OBM's nodes
- obm_locator : reduces the amount of configuration file, or at least, reduce the work to do to configure an OBM's service.
These features are added to the former's others :
- obm_ui : calendar, contact, crm, …
- obm_storage : the OBM database (PostgreSQL or MySQL)
- obm_mail : Cyrus and Postfix services
- obm_sync : synchronizes the OBM calendar with Thunderbird/Lightning and Outlook
- obm_funambol : synchronizes the OBM calendar with some PDA
- obm_samba : Samba to permit OBM users to logon Windows station
- obm_ldap : provides a centralized authentication system

installation
To be more pedagogic, the installation of these different modules below will be done on different machines. It will permit to see which ports are used and which connections are done between the different OBM's nodes. For example, obm-ui needs to have at least 3 services (obm-ui, obm-storage and obm-solr) to run. So, 3 machines are needed. Though, if you are installing OBM for the first time, we recommend you to follow the installation in the order provided by the menu. Well, let's start with obm-ui's installation!
